It’s been a while since I’ve sat down to write here, but with Christmas just around the corner, my heart feels too full to stay quiet any longer.
This year feels extra special. Last Tuesday, our family grew a little bigger—and a whole lot sweeter—when Brian’s nephew and his wife welcomed their first child, a beautiful baby girl. I can only imagine their joy of holding her for the first time, her tiny fingers exploring theirs. Her birth reminds us all how Christmas isn’t just about the lights and gifts; it’s about new life, fresh hope, and the quiet miracle of a new generation joining the circle.
Outside the world is dressed in white. We’ve had snow on the ground for days now, soft and steady, blanketing everything in that peaceful hush that only a good snowfall can bring. With another big dump forecast for the next couple of days, there’s no doubt about a good old fashioned White Christmas this year. The kind Bing would sing about, the kind that makes sled tracks in the yard and turns every breath into a little cloud of wonder.
Then there’s our granddaughter, who has recently become the most helpful, polite, and angelic child on the planet. Dishes cleared without being asked? Check. Toys picked up on the first request? Absolutely. We all know the secret motivator: the gentle yearly reminder that Santa is watching closely, and a lump of coal is still technically on the table. Whatever works, right? Her wide-eyed determination to stay on the “nice list” has us all smiling.
As family starts arriving over the next couple of weeks—cars crunching up the snowy drive, arms full of cookies and presents and stories—I’m reminded how lucky we are. My brother-in-law’s house will once again be loud, his kitchen chaotic, the nights short on sleep and long on laughter. And even though she’s too young to travel, we will celebrate a brand-new baby girl experiencing her very first Christmas with her overjoyed parents, and of course our little granddaughter working overtime to keep her stocking coal-free.
This is what the season is truly about: love that keeps growing, memories piling up like fresh snow, and the joy of simply being together.
Wishing you all the same warmth, wonder, and white Christmas magic.
With love,
Karen
