How is everyone? Hanging in there? Bored or do you have the nicest yard and cleanest house ever? Eating too much? Drinking too much? Arguing with your spouse and family? Do you feel like you’re going to go crazy if you don’t get our and do something other than stand in a line, six feet apart to buy groceries or a take-out coffee?
We’ve been through most of the above, but we’re surviving and making the best of a grim and depressing situation. We still need exercise and we still need to eat. Brian has been making incredible meals this whole time. Last night he improvised on Chicken a la King, using coconut milk instead of mushrooms and the chicken stock we make ourselves. He served it over Jasmine Rice with a glass of sweet fruity wine for me, and his dry, Italian stuff for the chef. He jokes that after the Pandemic, there will 2-types of people – gourmet cooks and drunks. We know he can cook, but he looks like the Galloping Gourmet (for those of you old enough to remember who I’m talking about) while he’s doing it. Always a glass of wine on the go. His excuse is it makes him more creative. That may well be, but his stomach is also starting to look the part.
There seems to be some good news coming out regarding the Virus. It was not a real long time ago when they were saying the there could be hundreds of thousands or even as many as a million dead – just in Canada! No wonder everyone is terrified to go out – for any reason, but thanks to the quick responses and the self-isolation most of us are practicing diligently, as well as the hope of a vaccine and better testing, it looks like most of North America, indeed, most of the world will be coming out of this with numbers many times smaller than original estimates.
Click here for a link to a radio show I was on over the Christmas holidays. It talks about stress and how to manage it in stressful times like Christmas, but it’s very appropriate for these trying times.
Take care everyone and stay safe.
Namaste, Karen Egoff
