New year Diets

Happy new year! Time to take responsibility for the extra food and drink that was consumed. Yes, it was a clear choice you made. Now, time to get back to a good diet. Eating more vegy’s, soups less fats, stick to some salads, mainly leafy greens like spinach, kale and romain lettuce, then add your favorite low calorie meat like tuna, chicken and turkey if needed. If you prefer nuts try pine nuts, almonds ground and pecans to add protein. Make a salad dressing with few simple ingredients. We use coconut sugar or maple syrup, then olive oil cold pressed, lemon or lime juice, some salt and Italian seasoning mix…blend in the blender and voila! You have a awesome dressing. Do you like to try new recipes? Look up live food recipes or cooking for health, and low fat diet ideas are on the internet., waiting for you.
Soup anyone? We find buying turkey or even beef bones from a organic farmer, then adding rice, celery, onion and spices of your choice, oh when working with poultry we find adding some lemon or lime really adds to the flavor. Happy New Year Everyone! It’s hard to believe that we’re starting 2016. It seems like just yesterday we were all worrying about Y2K. Then of course we had the end of times on December 21, 2012 with the end of the Mayan Calendar.
We’ve both settled down considerably since then, and the last 3 or 4 years have been filled with growth – emotionally, spiritually and, unfortunately, physically. We both need to remain vigilant about what we eat and drink, getting sufficient exercise and enough sleep to stay healthy. My husband turns 60 this month. The older we get, the more important these things are to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Mind you he’s quit counting and instead determines his age by how old he feels at any given time. (Today he’s 47, but during a brief cold before Christmas he was 102).
Another year gone and a new one started. Does anyone have any “New Year’s Resolutions” they’d like to share? Lose weight, exercise more, be nicer to your spouse or children or parents? I saw a store front the other day – a place called Resolutions. For the month of January it’s full of gym equipment. For the other eleven months it’s a bar and fast food restaurant. But I’m sure the readers of this Blog have more willpower than that.
The start of the year is a great time to adjust our heading. A time to right the ship and steer it toward calmer, more stable waters. A time to reset ourselves, to get back on track, become more productive, renew our spiritual commitments, discard our emotional baggage full of anger, jealousy, sadness and whatever else we’re holding onto that’s keeping us from moving forward. It’s been 16 years since Y2K and frankly it feels like 16 days. We can’t keep putting it off forever or the ship will sail without us. We have to start some time and there is no time like now. Start with baby steps – a walk around the block or one less pop or a smaller piece of roast beef. Also, instead of the default emotions we fall back on when something doesn’t go our way, try giving someone the benefit of the doubt, or forgiving someone for a past indiscretion. Feelings of anger, spite, holding onto grudges – these things will literally eat you up inside. Life is too short. Nothing positive ever came from negative feelings.

January is a month of opportunities to test your wisdom with the pressures of everyday modern living. Can I react to situations with calmness and universal understanding?
Beginning this month start fresh with good healthy food. Meditate. Make a resolution to continue this throughout the year. Before you eat cherish the nature of things and how the food got to your table. With those thoughts send your love out to the universe of how magical and fascinating you find the mysteries of nature. This will connect you with the divine in all things.
The changing winds in the month of January is the perfect time to carry our manifestations into existence. The thoughts we have now in January will linger with us for quite some time, as we are sub-consciously setting up our year for success or failure. Becoming conscious of our thoughts and actions allows us to refine them to reflect our spiritual nature and wisdom. Bringing only positive circumstances in January.

Namaste,

Karen.
